ScriptMonkeys.com is a husband and wife team. “Two halves of the same brain,” we like to joke. Over the years we have leapt into webdesign and development, initially with an online store (yes, we were another casualty of the dotcom bust of the late 90s), and then with personal non-commercial ventures. Together we webmaster and/or administer over a dozen different websites and the number just seems to keep growing. Realizing the need for certain utilities for our various sites, we began scripting, and after quite a bit of trial and error have finally found our stride. Most of our scripts start with frustration when we want a particular application and can’t find anything readily available. Our favorite phrase is “wouldn’t it be neat if we could…”, followed by, “let’s try it.” While admittedly there are many times our aspirations are far above the limitations of scripting and our personal expertise, a great many times we are able to work together to create a script to fill the need. While our scripts are useful and can be very powerful, we are of the mind that simple is better. We like user-friendly applications and try to develop scripts with that in mind.

We work well together, on and off line. Ravenswood (known as Jiles in some circles) does the bulk of the programming. He’s been programming for over 20 years, first working on an Apple II given to him by his mom. Since then he has programmed in a variety of languages, gaining a particular proficiency in Perl. Mirz is a webdesigner and has used her digital design skills to create most of the administration layouts, logos and icons, as well as constantly pushing the envelope, asking, “can this be done?”

While we program a lot of our own scripts, time limitations and recognition that trying to do everything ourselves would just be silly, we have utilized and benefited from many of the wonderful free scripts available on the Internet. GPL is an incredible thing and has allowed us to continue to build our online world. To be fair, we felt that many of our scripts might be useful to the community and chose a select few to feature on this site. We hope you will enjoy them and find them as helpful as we have.
